A RED CARPET FOR THE SILVER DAWN

The busy summer season of cruise visitors to Plymouth continues with the huge cruise ship the Silver Dawn arriving in the Sound this morning, and now at anchor.

Westward Shipping News 24 hour webcam spotted the luxury cruise liner sailing past other international military and cargo ships at buoy in the Sound including; the Italian vessel the Marina Militare Italiana LHD ITS San Marco, and the Belgium warship the Louise Marie.

Plymouth is the first stop on a 15-day trip around the UK for the The Silversea Cruises’ vessel with nearly 600 passengers, and 400 crew are onboard.

Many of the passengers will be welcomed on Plymouth’s historic Barbican by the city’s shore handlers, tourist bosses, and cruise volunteer ambassadors.

Plymouth’s Ocean City is gaining a UK reputation for its welcoming ceremonies for cruise visitors, and will be met at Commercial Wharf on the Barbican from 8am+ onwards by Volunteer Ambassadors.

The Bahamas-registered ship has 11 decks, and will be at anchor in the Sound until mid-night.

Many of the tourist passengers will explore the city on foot and others on day trips organised by Plymouth shore handlers.

The Silver Dawn is the fourth cruise ship to visit Plymouth so far in 2023, with other high profile cruise visits including the Spirit of Discovery, MS Rotterdam, and the Ocean Nova that pulled alongside at Trinity Pier, in Millbay recently.

The cruise tourism generated by the ships visiting Plymouth is bringing economic boosts to the city especially for gift shops, local attractions, cafes, restaurants, boat trips. But also, port revenues for berthing, pilotage, harbour fees and staff.
