Plymouth based air-defence frigate HMS StAlbans was deployed outside the Irish Republic’s territorial waters in a security operation to protect an EU defence ministers meeting in Wicklow.
An Irish liaison officer was reported to be on board the warship to grant permission to fire long-range weaponry.
