WELCOME ABOARD, YEAR OF CRUISE VISITS

Look Back Gallery, dated July 22, 2021, when the world’s largest square-rigged sailing ship, the Golden Horizon, made its spectacular presence felt in Plymouth Sound on a visit to the city.

The near-replica 5-masted sailing ship of the 1913-built France II cruises around the Mediterranean and Caribbean and offers the onboard luxuries of a small cruise ship, but with the charm, beauty, and adventure of the 19th and 20th-century clippers.

The Plymouth Cruise Ship Partnerships are celebrating a £1.5 million boost to economic tourism in the city from visiting cruise liners this year alone, with a further 5 liners expected to visit up to October 2024.

On Saturday, Westward Shipping News will be one of the first to capture the first images of the Silver Spirit cruise liner on our live webcam as it drops anchor in the Sound for a nine-hour whistle-stop visit. The ship was expected in June, but unfortunately had to abort the trip because of bad weather.

The Ambience Ocean Liner will be visiting on August 1st, carrying 1,400 passengers for a 10-hour stay.

On September 14, the Amadea will be visiting the city with 624 passengers onboard for a 10-hour stay.

And the beautifully designed Le Dumont d’Urville, a mega-yacht cruise liner strengthened for cold ocean expedition cruises, will arrive on September 20 for a 16-hour stopover.

In October, the Artania will be visiting the city with over 1,260 passengers after sailing across the Atlantic and a 9-hour stopover.

Meanwhile, the team at Westward Shipping News is getting excited about the return of the famous paddle steamer, the PS Waverley, visiting the city in late August and early September.

The Waverley is the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world, and the crew at Westward have booked our tickets for the two-hour cruise to Eddystone Lighthouse on September 1 from the Barbican Landing Stage and back.
