AUCTION BID FOR USS YORKTOWN MODEL

Prize-winning warship model maker David Brown, based in Liskeard, Cornwall, has donated a model of the USS Yorktown for auction to the highest bidder to raise funds for the Devonport Naval Heritage Centre in Plymouth.

Peter Dunlop, Lead Coordinator at the DNHC, said, “The superbly detailed model of the USS Yorktown, being escorted by the USS England destroyer, was sunk during the Battle of Midway in 1942.

“The model is about 3 feet long and 1 foot wide and is up for auction until the end of July 2026.”

David Brown has donated many fantastic new ship models to our exhibitions, and all are relevant to the Royal Navy and HMNB Devonport, but the USS aircraft carrier never came anywhere near Plymouth.

David Brown is keen to help us raise funds for our museum with an auction, and especially to ensure a good home for his latest model warship, said Mr. Dunlop.

The winning bidder will need to collect the model in person at the DNHC, and the lucky winner will be informed on the 1st of August, 2026.

All bids will need to be emailed at: enquiriesdnhc@gmail.com.
