A REGAL VISITOR BACK IN THE SOUND

The MV Artania arrived this morning in the Sound and is Plymouth’s second cruise visitor of 2026. A regular visitor to the city, the luxury vessel has now dropped anchor inside the breakwater.

Westward Shipping News live streaming webcams were the first to capture the vessel arriving in the Sound and being escorted by the Plymouth pilot boat.

The £125 million luxury cruise ship is run by Phoenix Reisen Cruises and was built in 1984 and refurbished in 2022. It was at the time the most expensive passenger ship ever built and initially named the Royal Princess because it was launched by Diana, the late Princess of Wales.

The Bahamas-registered cruise ship has eight decks and carries up to 1,260 passengers and 537 crew with 594 cabins.

Tender boats are already ferrying passengers ashore at the Barbican Landing Stage, where they will receive a famous red-carpet welcome from Plymouth cruise partnership bosses, shore handlers, and volunteer cruise ambassadors.

There is lots to see for the visitors with Pirates’ Weekend in full swing today on the Barbican.
