The luxurious P&O cruise ship Aurora arrived in the Sound around 6:30am this morning, and guided by the Plymouth pilot boat.

The 70,000-tonne vessel is on its first maiden visit to the city and now at anchor inside the breakwater.

Tender boats will take over a thousand passengers to Commercial Wharf on the Barbican, where they will be welcomed by cruise ship ambassadors, city representatives, and other onshore handlers.

The 13-deck ship was built in 2000 and was named by Princess Anne; it offers 19 bars and restaurants, 7 entertainment venues, and 3 swimming pools. A key feature of the ship’s interiors is a 35-foot sculpture which towers over the atrium.

The cruise ship will depart late this afternoon around 5pm. You can see all the latest live movements of the ship on our webcams throughout the day.
