THE HURST POINT ARRIVES IN PLYMOUTH

Global demand for heavy lift and Roll-on, roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferries is surging to record levels, and many international operators are relishing commercial prospects over the next few years.

MV Eddystone

And one of Britain’s global shipping providers AW Ship Management Ltd, based in London, and established for over a century, provides a complete ship management service from new build, valuation, repair and maintenance to crewing, purchasing and accountancy.

AW Ship Management with the UK’s Ministry of Defence run the four roll-on, roll off (Ro-Ro) ships we often see in the Sound on our Westward Shipping News 24-hour webcam and images.

The vessels deliver military vehicles and other equipment around the globe, where the British Treasury is the insurer of last resort for the vessels if they enter war zones where normal insurance would be invalid.

MV Hartland Point

The four Point class Sealift ships are designed for the strategic transport of military cargo and vehicles and are available for use as naval auxiliaries to the British armed forces when required.

The vessels have 2,650 linear metres of space for vehicles which can house 130 armoured vehicles and 60 trucks and ammunition or 8,000 tonnes of vehicles.

The four ships include the MV Hurst Point, MV Hartland Point, MV Eddystone, and MV Anvil Point, and all are named after British points and headlands, were built by the German company Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft, and two built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast.
