IN an exclusive interview with Westward Shipping News the Chief Executive of ‘Destination Plymouth’ Amanda Lumley talks about her role, and of the city’s private/public sector partnership plans for 2023 and beyond.

Last year Destination Plymouth took part with Destination Britain in Washington, US, for a Destination Britain North America showcase – to promote and encourage visitors stateside to come to Britain and Plymouth.

Chief Executive, Amanda Lumley, said: “We met over 70 tour operators, travel agents, and trade buyers and sold the concept of visits to Britain and especially to Plymouth and the wider South West region.”

“In 2023 the US market numbers are looking really good for the UK and Plymouth,” she said.

Destination Plymouth is delivering a 10-year Visitor Plan with ambitious targets for the local visitor economy to achieve by 2030, and is playing an important role in helping the industry to recover after the Covid-19 lockdowns and pandemic.

The organisation is funded by the Plymouth City Centre Company, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, and Plymouth City Council alongside support from local businesses.
