Every year since the first event in 2009, we have taken pictures of Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe Promenade.
Our look back pictures from previous showcases – and especially raising the flag on the Esplanade to mark the city’s Armed Forces Week in 2012.
This year the flag was raised at a ceremony near the Plymouth Guildhall by representatives from the city council, military leaders and personnel, ex-forces veterans, charity organisations, and members of the public.
Westward Shipping News will have a ringside seat with our Live Webcam looking out across the Esplanade and Plymouth Sound, and will capture the many thousands of visitors expected to attend the events and activities taking place including the flypast of vintage aircraft – and the iconic Red Arrows aerobatics display team of the RAF (weather permitting).
Military villages are being set up like previous years to showcase a wide variety of interactive displays – with representatives from all of the UK Armed Services including the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Airforce, and the Army.
More than 80 organisations and charities will be offering information marquees and information stands on a wide range of issues. There will be an all-day arena on the Promenade, with live music, and all sorts of displays and vehicles on show.
Organisers are promising a free evening concert headlined by Dr Oz the band, and other performers to keep visitors fully entertained.
