A strike by around 300 Serco Marine Masters and crews from across Britain has been suspended for more talks with the Ministry of Defence and Serco bosses.
Devonport tugboat crews were expected to join a 24-hour walkout today, but Unite has agreed to suspend strike action in Devonport, Portsmouth, Faslane, Great Harbour Greenock, and Kyle of Lochalsh to allow for a consultation period to ensure the Royal Navy’s Afloat Service is ‘fit for purpose.’

Reports say that Serco has agreed to delay signing a new 10-year, £1.2 billion contract with the MOD to allow for 30 days of union consultations.
The Afloat services cover all towage activities, bunkering and watering, tank cleaning, passenger services, trial work, munitions, and nuclear safety activities for the Royal Navy.

The highly professional tugboat crews in Devonport can be seen regularly on our daily live webcam streaming service escorting navy ships in and out of Devonport and across the Sound.
