RFA Proteus at anchor inside the Plymouth breakwater this afternoon and its 120-tonne crane with 3,000-meter wire lifting a boat into the water.
The ship is designed to protect critical underwater infrastructure and serves as a platform for remotely operated and autonomous underwater vehicles (UUVs).
With a gross tonnage of 6,133 and a length of 321 feet, it is equipped with advanced systems for monitoring and surveying underwater environments.
RFA Proteus was acquired in 2023 and officially entered service in October 2023, marking a significant step in the UK’s efforts to safeguard its critical maritime interests.
