A great homecoming for the Plymouth sailors on HMS Richmond this afternoon.

The Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy made its unforgettable return to the city today with a spectacular display of gunfire that echoed out across the Hoe waterfront.

Arriving a day earlier because of the poor weather conditions expected tomorrow, the crew on HMS Richmond will be met by family and loved ones at HMNB Devonport with flags and banners.

Westward Shipping News captured the ship leaving the Sound earlier this year to join Operation Highmast, where over 4,500 British military personnel have been involved, including 900 soldiers, 600 RAF personnel, and 2,500 Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines, with the UK carrier group sailing more than 40,000 nautical miles, with aerial components completing 2,500 sorties.

The Carrier strike group was led by the UK’s flagship, HMS Prince of Wales, which received a huge homecoming in Portsmouth this afternoon with HMS Dauntless.

WELCOME HOME, HMS RICHMOND, FROM THE SMALL CREW AT WESTWARD SHIPPING NEWS.
