WELCOME HOME TO HMS PROTECTOR

Plymouth welcomes home HMS Protector after a successful 2-year deployment to the southern oceans of Antarctica, underlining the ship’s importance to the nation and its vital role in polar research and naval operations, and inbound to HM Naval Base Devonport this morning.

The Royal Navy’s ice patrol ship HMS Protector completed a massive scientific and conservation mission to the Antarctic across the frozen continent and some of the world’s most remote and inhospitable regions.

The Plymouth-based ship is one of the nation’s most unique vessels and underlines the British commitment to the Antarctica Treaty Systems, say conservationists.
