A Portuguese Tridente-class submarine was spotted slowly making its way into HMNB Devonport in the deep mist and rain this morning.

The Tridente-class consists of two submarines: NRP Tridente and NRI Arpao, and both commissioned in 2010.

The vessels have a submerged displacement of 2,020 tonne, and length of 67.7 meters, and a beam of 6.35 meters, and can reach speeds of up to 20 knots submerged and have a surface range of 12,000 nautical miles at 8 knots.

Police boats escorted the Portuguese submarine into HMNB Devonport on a port visit.
