THE ULTIMATE IN CRUISE OPULENCE ARRIVES IN THE SOUND

The elegantly designed superyacht, the Le Dumont d’Urville expedition ship, arrived in Plymouth this morning on its inaugural visit to the city. 

The environmentally friendly and award-winning ‘Clean Ship’ designation vessel, dropped anchor inside the Breakwater just after 6:30 a.m. on a short visit and due to leave at lunch time.

Passengers from the stylish superyacht are being transported ashore on tender craft to the Barbican Landing Stage and met by the Cruise Ambassador Volunteers, Town Crier, Plymouth Maritime Corps of Drums, Shore Handlers, and Representatives from the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership.

Taking its name from the French explorer and naval officer Jules Sebastien Cesar Dumont D’urville, the Le Dumont d’Urville has visited many locations across the globe from polar to tropical destinations.

Arrived in the dark just after 6am this morning

Passengers from the ship’s 92 rooms are offered the ultimate in cruise luxury and opulence with authentic French service and cuisine by Ponant Cruises. 

Built in 2019 at a cost of about £113m, the Wallis and Futuna-flagged ship carries up to 264 passengers, in 92 cabins, and 112 crew.

The beautiful superyacht boasts an underwater observatory that allows passengers to witness marine life up close via two giant windows, as well as digital screens that can show live images under the Sound.

The city’s latest cruise arrival is the 10th for 2024 with another, Artania, still to come next month. The ambition is to grow to 30 visits a year say city bosses.

Le Dumont d’Urville left Plymouth at mid day and now en route to the Port of Dover
