THE SHREWD ASTUTE ARRIVES IN PLYMOUTH

The Royal Navy’s lead operational submarine HMS Astute arrived early in the Sound this morning and was spotted on our live webcam.

The Astute was escorted into HMNB Devonport by Serco Group vessels and police patrol boats.

The KHM Plymouth announced on their Shipping Movements daily circular a submarine was arriving today, with security tight as for all submarine movements in the Sound.

HMS Astute arrived in Gibraltar on the 15 March, and was reported in the Iberian media its armaments were removed at the British base before sailing to Plymouth.

It looked from our webcam and pictures the Serco vessels were supporting the submarine into HMNB Devonport.

There is some speculation online the Navy submarine may have technical problems, with some saying the boat has ‘corrosion beneath the surface’.

HMS Astute now joins HMS Audacious, which was moved into dry dock at Devonport last month, with two of the class now in the base.

HMS Astute arrived inside the Breakwater at 6:16am this morning and met by Serco vessels
