THE SHABAB OMAN 2 – LEAVING THE SOUND TODAY

Plymouth Sound is the amphitheatre to the world, and with a new era of clean shipping and technologically advanced new vessels, the RNOV Shabab Oman 2 is perhaps one of the most majestic to sail across the Hoe.

The tall ship is a flagship ambassador of the Royal Navy Oman and trains young Omani navy cadets – and has been on a port visit to Plymouth.

Shabab Oman II arrived in the mist and rain 4 days ago and was spotted on our live webcam inbound to HMNB Devonport.

The elegant vessel was built on the shores of the Danube in Romania and launched in 2013 and entered service in 2014.

A three-mast clipper looks very traditional but boasts all the latest seafaring technology inside the vessel.

The overall length of the tall ship is 84.70 metres, the displacement is 1,250 tonnes, and the operating speed under sail is 18 knots.
