THE SCRAPPING OF TWO GREAT SHIPS

In a move that outraged many of our followers online and on our flagship website, the scrapping of HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark has once again hit the national news headlines.

The Labour government axed HMS Bulwark near the end of its gleaming new paintwork and refit, which was reported to have cost £72 million, and sold in a knockdown fire sale to Brazil.

With the future of HMS Albion uncertain also, critics have voiced anger at the huge capability gaps in amphibious operations, slow process of increasing the defence budget, and a drum beat of potential conflict with Russia that could be around the corner.

The roles of the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary are daily concerns to our online readers.

Major issues are over submarine operations, lack of frigates, and the diminishing British military role in overseas operations.

But especially the intervention of Gen Sir Gwyn, the head of the Navy, calling on the Labour government to spend more on defence before it’s too late.
