THE PERFECT CRUISE FERRY EXPERIENCE

Our latest journey on Brittany Ferries cruise ferry the MS Armorique from Plymouth to Roscoff was really special this time, as I took the plunge and drove my car on the left-hand side of French roads and motorways – all the way to the Normandy beaches and back.

To be honest I was a little nervous in driving continental, but I soon enjoyed the experience and will certainly take Woody my car again.

The sailing over on the (Ro-Ro) cruise ferry MS Armorique was a little choppy on the outbound sailing and smooth on the way home.

The air-conditioned cabins, with en-suite bathrooms, fresh bed linens, towels, and toiletries for the overnight sailing, were perfect.

MS Armorique has a maximum capacity of 1,500 passengers and 470 cars and freight vehicles.

The ship features 300 reclining seats, if you don’t want a cabin, with some staterooms being wheelchair-accessible and adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.

The boarding at Millbay Docks was seamless, and at Roscoff port on the way home.

I always love the early morning alarm and music that plays in the cabins telling passengers they must vacate 30 minutes prior to arrivals.

Passengers always make an orderly scrum to the car decks and sit in the cars waiting to leave, with passports at the ready, going through British & French customs.

This journey was also very special because Westward Shipping News was invited on the ship’s bridge to see for ourselves the command and control centre on the MS Armorique.

I was very pleased to meet the Mayor of Liskeard, Christina Whitty, and Deputy Mayor David Braithwait, who were also visiting the ship’s nerve centre.

They were both on their way home from strengthening Cornish ties with Brittany and the twinning links between Liskeard and Quimperle that were first set up in 1974.

The Cornish representatives attended official ceremonies in the town hall of Quimperle and exchanged gifts with the Brittany mayor, Michaël Quernez.

Christina Whitty, Mayor of Liskeard, said: “Our visit was to strengthen ties between Liskeard and Quimperle, and celebrate over 50 years of friendship and cooperation with our twinning links,” she said.

My final night in Brittany was spent in our favourite Bed & Breakast near Roscoff at the ‘Entre Terre & Mer Chambres D’Hotes’

Located near the Port of Roscoff, and tucked into a pretty corner of Brittany, is one of the most charming Bed & Breakfast Hotels we’ve ever stayed in.

Married couple Marie-Laure and Philippe Jallu of  ‘Entre Terre & Mer Chambres D’Hotes’ take customer services to a whole new level of refinery.
