THE BUSY CATTISTOCK BACK IN PLYMOUTH

One of our favourite ships at Westward Shipping News the mine-hunter vessel HMS Cattistock, was spotted on our live webcam this morning in the Sound and inbound to Devonport.

It’s been quite a year so far for the crew of the Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel receiving the Freedom of Poole, in April 2024, and the highest honour a town can bestow on the Navy. The entire ship’s company, led by the Royal Marines band, paraded through the historic town.

Last month, crowds cheered in Portsmouth when HMS Cattistock accompanied the Brittany Ferries ship Mont St Michel carrying D-Day veterans to France for the 80th anniversary commemorations.

Royal Navy patrol vessels Trumpeter, Medusa, Basher, and the Training Ship Royalist were also part of the group, where tugs sprayed water as they left Portsmouth harbour, and were met by small boats and yachts waiting outside the harbour to see the ferry off to Caen.
