The FS Bretagne on a port visit to HM Naval Base Devonport this morning in the mist and rain, getting ready for the French led #Polaris25 exercise in the West Atlantic with the helicopter carrier FS Tonnerre beyond the Plymouth breakwater.

The Bretagne anti-submarine warfare (ASW) took to sea in May 2018 and the fifth of eight ships in its class at 142-meter long, equipped with the Aster and Exocet MM 40 missiles and the MU 90 torpedoes.
The ship can be operated by a crew of 108, with helicopter detachment included.

The French navy’s FS Tonnerre amphibious and assault ship carrier is based in its homeport of Toulon. While technically an aircraft carrier the air wing of the Tonnerre is comprised solely of helicopters.
