Look Back Gallery Special and the historic homecoming of HMS Montrose returning to Plymouth dated 16th December 2022.
The Type-23 Duke Class frigate was returning after 4 years of service in the Gulf, Indian Ocean, and Red Sea.

Spectacular gunfire from the iconic ship could be heard across the city’s famous Hoe waterfront as HMS Montrose made its way into Devonport, where over 800 family, loved ones, and friends were waiting on the jetty.

HMS Montrose was the last ship home to Plymouth in time for Christmas 2022.
During the Montrose deployment the historic ship achieved:
- More than ten drug busts, seizing 16 tonnes of illegal narcotics worth at least £80m.
- Seized illegal shipments of surface-to-air missiles and cruise missile engines in the first bust of its kind by the Royal Navy in the region
- Guided more than 130 merchant vessels, cargo carriers, tankers, and container ships through choke points.
- Spent 1,509 days away from the UK, more than 1,350 of them in the Gulf
- Sailed more than 140,000 nautical miles

The iconic vessel left Bahrain in November 2022 and was finally decommissioned in Portsmouth in 2023.
