Ex-HMS Westminster was spotted on our webcam this week being towed out of the Sound by Serco Group tugs on its way to Portsmouth to join (Argyll, Northumberland, and Montrose) to be prepared for disposal.

The Type 23 Duke-class vessel was decommissioned last year, and will be under the management of the Disposal Reserve Ships Organisation regarding its future disposal plan.

HMS Westminster was originally launched in 1992 and underwent an extensive refit in 2014, and completed in 2016.

As set out in the Strategic Defence Review (SDR), the report encourages the Royal Navy to modernise quickly with a mix of advanced warships alongside un-crewed vessels.
