RFA TIDESURGE SHADOWS RUSSIAN SUBMARINE

Another warning from history, by the NATO top chief Mark Rutte, that Britain and Europe could be heading for a war with Russia on a scale not seen since the 1940s.

Former Prime Minister of Holland for 14 years and was made the 14th secretary general of NATO in October 2024.

Mark Rutte was speaking at a security conference in Berlin this week and has warned British and NATO countries that the military bloc is firmly in the Kremlin’s sights.

“We are Russia’s next target,’ he warned.

“And I fear that too many are quietly complacent,” he said.

The latest warnings come as a Russian submarine was spotted in the North Sea and made its way through the Straight of Dover into the English Channel.

RFA Tidesurge, with a Merlin helicopter on board, was deployed by the Royal Navy to keep a watch on the Kilo-class Krasnodar and its tugboat support Altay.

The Russian submarine sailed on the surface despite poor weather conditions and made its way to northwest France, and RFA Tidesurge shadowed the Russians until handing over the monitoring duty to another NATO ally.

Lieutenant Commander David Emery, flight commander of 814 Naval Air Squadron’s Atlantic Flight, said, “Maintaining an overt presence and continued overwatch of Russian vessels in UK waters is vital for national security.”

Only recently, the UK’s top naval commander, Sir Gywn Jenkins, called on the Labour government to spend more on defence before it’s too late.

The Chief of the Naval Staff warned in a recent speech in London that Britain is on the brink of losing the North Atlantic to Russia, which is investing billions in its Northern Fleet, with a 30 per cent increase of incursions in British waters over the last two years.

The Russian presence in home waters is probing the nation’s undersea infrastructure of oil, gas, and communication pipelines, Sir Gwyn Jenkins, said.
