REPLICA SPANISH GALLEON IS COMING TO PLYMOUTH

The visit of the Spanish replica galleon the Nao Victoria to Plymouth has been pushed back to later this week because of weather conditions affecting its European tour.

The Plymouth Cattewater Harbour Commissioners who are organisers of the visit said that, due to incoming inclement weather crossing the English Channel the Nao Victoria is now expected to arrive in Plymouth towards the end of this week. If you have booked tickets in advance please contact Fundación Nao Victoria directly.

The replica galleon, the Nao Victoria, is visiting Plymouth from May 28th to the 1st of June, 2025, and will berth at the Barbican Landing Stage.

Westward Shipping News live webcam will capture some of the first images of the galleon has it makes its way across the Sound into the Barbican.

The original Nao Victoria was the first-ever ship to circumnavigate the world from 1519 to 1522 and was commanded by Juan Sebastián Elcano.

It was one of five ships, dubbed the Spice Army, to attempt the maritime feat but was the only one to complete the journey.

The original vessel was lost at sea in the 1570s, and the replica was built in Spain in 1991 by six carpenters and five assistants in eight months.

Since 2007 the Spanish galleon has been managed by the Nao Victoria Foundation.

The visit to Plymouth is part of a European tour and visitors, local schools and associations looking to book a visit can email ecampos@velacuadras.es and more details at: www.tallshipexperience.com
