MILLBAY DOCKS OPEN FOR GLOBAL BUSINESS

The official opening of £23 million of upgraded investments at Plymouth’s Associated British Ports (ABP) in Millbay Docks is an exciting new chapter for the city.

Westward Shipping News attended the official launch at the refurbished ferry terminal to see for ourselves the significant works that have transformed the historic docks to cater to more shipping and freight business.

Maritime, industry, and business leaders from across the city and southwest, together with Plymouth City Council bosses and community representatives, attended the official launch.

A new state of the art walkway boarding bridge on West Wharf.

The upgraded works include a new Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridge on West Wharf that will streamline the embarkation and disembarkation process for foot passengers travelling on Brittany Ferries and for future cruise ship visitors to the port.

Millbay Docks has been a key hub for Brittany Ferries for over 40 years, and the Chief Executive of Brittany Ferries, Christophe Mathieu, attended the launch and the unveiling of a plaque together with Julian Walker, Chief Commercial Officer and Regional Director of ABP, and city councillor Sue Dann on behalf of the Labour Council.

Works to upgrade infrastructure started at West Wharf in December 2023.

Works to upgrade infrastructure at Millbay Docks started in December 2023, and the finished upgrades have strengthened the dock’s long-term future with a refurbished ferry terminal, ambitions to increase the port’s freight capability, green credentials, and growing the offering of the port to global cruise line operators to bring more cruise ship visitors to Plymouth.
