The ‘Silver Spirit’ luxury cruise liner was greeted by mist in the Sound early this morning. The vessel was escorted by the Plymouth pilot boat like professional clockwork.

The huge liner boasts eight restaurants, five bars, and with over 600 passengers on board dropped anchor inside the Plymouth Breakwater just after 7 a.m. on a whistle-stop, 9-hour visit.

The Silversea Cruises vessel was due to visit last month but was forced to abort due to bad weather in the English Channel. The 12-deck ship is classed as a mega yacht and last visited the city back in 2005.

Plymouth is part of Silver Spirit’s round-trip British Isles visits from Southampton around the UK, also stopping at Cork, Fishguard, Liverpool, Belfast, Glasgow, Orkney, Edinburgh, and Newcastle.

Plymouth’s cruise ship visits have given the city a £1.5 million boost this year alone, with seven cruise ship visits so far and more expected until October.

Plymouth’s Cruise partnership includes Cattewater Harbour Commissioners, Millbay ABP, Destination Plymouth, Plymouth City Council, Volunteer Cruise Ambassadors, City Centre and Waterfront Business Improvement districts, and other partners.
