The iconic RFA Argus arrived in Falmouth from Portsmouth recently and was towed by two Dutch tugs and aided by local master tugs into the Cornish port.
From June 2025 until March 2026, the Argus was spent languishing in Portsmouth and deemed unsafe to sail to Falmouth for another refit to extend the life of the ship until the early 2030s.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency Surveyors and Lloyds of Portsmouth said the 1981 built vessel was unsafe to put to sea.
Falmouth’s APCL and AP Group Limited, was expected to carry out the refit, but the Labour government decided to decommission the vessel this year.

The Argus and its crews have proudly served Britain for the last 40 years, with operations across the globe.
RFA Argus will stay in Falmouth for final de-storing before being sold for scrap.
