HMS IRON DUKE IN THE SOUND

In the intense mist & rain and the dazzling of lights by the Plymouth breakwater HMS Iron Duke is outbound with tugboats – and was spotted by our Live Webcam sailing out across the Hoe waterfront this evening.

It is a milestone for the ship to be back at sea, and the Type 23 frigate recently undertook various upgrades from communication/navigation systems, to the installation of Sea Ceptor air defence missile system, and preparing the ship to carry future anti-surface guided weapons such as Martlet and Sea Venom.

HMS Iron Duke was the first frigate to benefit from Operation Baton, which involved the transfer of crew from a ship that is starting maintenance work to another ship that is nearing completion.
