HMS Portland is a Type 23 frigate and is the eighth ship to bear the name, and is equipped to carry out a range of military and humanitarian tasks.
The vessel’s weaponry includes a 4.5 inch gun, Harpoon, Seawolf missile systems and the versatile Mark 8 Lynx helicopter.
The Portland is powered by two Rolls Royce Gas Turbine Engines and supported by four diesel generators.
