The beautiful Polish tall ship the Dar Młodzieży was spotted on our live webcam sailing up the coast this morning with the destination of the Isle of Wight.
The 354-foot, three-masted, full-rigged ship is due to arrive on the 9th August in Cowes to celebrate 200 years of the Cowes regatta.
One of the world’s most magnificent tall ships will moor at the Trinity Buoy, opposite the Cowes promenade, and will be open to the public on the 10th August.
Built and launched in the city of Gdańsk in 1981 and commissioned for service in July 1982 at Gdynia. The first Polish-built, ocean-going sailing vessel to circumnavigate the globe in 1987-1988, repeating the famous voyage of her predecessor, the Dar Pomorza of 1934-1935.
The Dar Młodzieży visited Plymouth on 16th September 2021 for 5 days to celebrate Plymouth’s twinning links with Gdynia that date back to 1976 and one of the first special relationships with Poland that dates back to the Second World War and the free Polish Navy operating out of Devonport.
The visit was a significant event for both cities and especially for the Polish community and sailing enthusiasts in Plymouth.
