ASTUTE READY FOR HER MID-LIFE REFIT

The Royal Navy’s hunter killer submarine HMS Astute was recently photographed and spotted inbound to HMNB Devonport on the 30th June, and getting ready for her multi-million-pound Mid Life Re-Validation Period (MLRP).

After 15 years of service, HMS Astute will begin a major refit at @HMNBDevonport by Babcock. As she is fitted with the Core-H type reactor, unlike previous SSN classes, she will not require nuclear refuelling.

Since February 2024, HMS Audacious has been in number 14 dry dock at Devonport, where most of the work on HMS Astute will be now be undertaken.

Although all submarines are now based at HMNB Faslane in Scotland, HMNB Devonport is the main refitting centre for British submarines.
