Ambience, one of two cruise ships of Ambassador Cruise Lines, sailed over night to arrive in the Sound this morning on its maiden voyage, to Plymouth. The huge flagship of ‘Britain’s premium value no-fly cruise line’ dropped anchor inside the Hoe Breakwater at about 7.30 a.m.
The vessel is one of the world’s top 10%–15% environmentally sustainable ships, allowing access to some of northern Europe’s breath-taking Norwegian World Heritage fjords and other remote destinations.
Ambassador Cruise Line says it’s passionate about protecting the oceans and destinations, which is why Ambience exceeds the latest environmental standards, including no single-use plastic onboard and energy efficient engines.
The Ambience is the largest cruise ship to visit Plymouth this year with 13 decks and can carry about 1,400 passengers and 660 crew members.
Tender boats will take the passengers to the Barbican Landing Stage, where they will be met by the now familiar ritual of Plymouth’s famous ‘welcome ceremonies’ and its Volunteer Cruise Ambassadors, Town Crier, Marine Corps of Drums, shore handlers, and representatives from the Plymouth Cruise Partnership.
Many of the cruise passengers will go on excursions after they land on the Barbican, but others will stay in the city and especially visit the historic Harbourside, Hoe, Royal William Yard, and Mount Edgcumbe Park.
There are still another three cruise ships due to visit the city in 2024 including:
- Amadea on September 14, Le Dumont D’Urville on September 20, Artania on October 15
