Destination Plymouth is a private and public sector partnership, and its strategic role is to promote Plymouth as a place to live, work, study, and visit.
The organisation is funded by the Plymouth City Centre Company, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, and Plymouth City Council, alongside a wide membership from the city’s business community and surrounding areas.
Destination Plymouth was set up in 2010 to coordinate and promote the city’s leisure and tourism attractions around the world.
The team at Destination Plymouth works closely with other city partnerships to increase tourism numbers, and now over 5.4 million visitors have visited over the last 10 years, with visitor spend growth up by 25% to over £330 million a year, said the Chief Executive, Amanda Lumley.
Plymouth’s global reputation for cruise ship visits, and its hospitality welcomes to cruise liner tourists is second to none in the British Isles, and this year will bring in an extra £1.5 million in 2024.
Destination Plymouth Chief Executive Amanda Lumley said the extra income, which is growing by the year, was a “fantastic boost” to the Plymouth economy.
“We’re delighted to see so many passengers and crew enjoying our city and spending on everything from visiting the attractions and taking tours, to the gift shops and other retail outlets, cafes, and restaurants,” she added.
