£476 MILLION FREIGHT SHIPS CONTRACT

4 military logistical freight and support ships named after British Points and Headlands and regular visitors to Plymouth – will continue to serve the British military and Royal Navy until 2031.

The MOD has awarded a £476 million contract to the incumbent Foreland Shipping Consortium and AWShips to continue the Strategic Sealift (SSL-I) service.

MV Hurst Pont
MV Hartland Point
MV Eddystone
MV Anvil Point

The 4 vessels includes; MV Hurst Point, MV Hartland Point, MV Eddystone, and Anvil Point that are operated by the Ministry of Defence and will need to be replaced in 2031, say military experts.

The Point Class ships were originally six roll-on/roll-off sealift ships and procured under a Private Finance Initiative and for use as naval auxiliaries to the UK armed forces—but two were sold off by the government, and now 4 are operated by the MOD and AWShips.
